Abstracts On The Coast
Rockport, MA – September 3, 2025 – Abstract artist Jesse Mireles announces his upcoming solo exhibition, Abstracts On The Coast, at the Rockport Art Association & Museum, on view from September 6 to September 25, 2025. This body of work explores the emotional essence of the coastal landscape through abstract expressionist paintings, capturing the movement, depth, and mood of the ocean and the natural world.
The exhibition showcases a series of intuitive, nature-inspired abstractions, including atmospheric waterscapes and vibrant seascapes. Each piece is a reflection of the artist's emotional response to the marine environment, created through spontaneous compositions, bold color palettes, and layered textures. Featured in the show is Red Tide, which received the 2023 BankGloucester Award for Contemporary Art at RAA&M’s National Show.
“This work is about responding emotionally to the seacoast, not depicting it literally. But, it’s also where I allow my mood of the day to dictate the technique, the color palette and the direction of the composition,” says Jesse Mireles. He describes his abstract work as “a place to play, to experiment, and to explore new channels for his art”.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 6, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Rockport Art Association & Museum, offering visitors the chance to meet the artist and experience the work firsthand. The event is free and open to the public.

El Puente: Bridging Mexican and American Art with Jesse Mireles' Vibrant New Exhibit
A stunning collection of abstract expressionist paintings, prints, and collages now extended through June at Lexington Wealth Management.
Lexington, MA: February 18, 2025—Lexington Wealth Management ("Lexington"), a Hightower advisory business based in Lexington, Massachusetts, has extended the dates of its newest art exhibit, El Puente. The exhibit, by award-winning abstract artist Jesse Mireles, is part of Lexington Wealth Management's Embracing the Arts program, which brings large-scale exhibitions to the Lexington area.
Open through June 27, 2025, El Puente explores the dynamic intersection of Mexican and American art influences through nearly forty captivating abstract paintings, prints, and collages. El Puente, meaning "The Bridge," represents Mireles' exploration of blending Mexican and American cultures and showcases his evolution from a graphic designer to an expressive abstract artist.
"'El Puente' celebrates the power of art to connect cultures," says Jesse Mireles. "Through my work, I hope to create a visual dialogue that bridges the rich traditions of Mexican art with the bold, expressive power of American modernism."
With a style rooted in abstract expressionism, Mireles' work draws from his admiration for the Mexican muralists Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, alongside influences from American and European Expressionists such as German artist Franz Marc. His vibrant use of color and innovative techniques resonates with viewers, inviting them to witness the fusion of these two powerful art traditions.
The collection includes large-scale and intimate works highlighting Mireles' mastery of using nontraditional tools and media to break free from the rigid structures of graphic design. The bold, unrestrained compositions featured in the exhibit reflect his journey from distinguished graphic designer to acclaimed fine artist.
The exhibit is open to the public. Call Lexington Wealth Management at 781.860.7745 for more information. The artist also offers personalized guided tours by appointment. Jesse Mireles’ Exhibit "¡Expresionismo!" at Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH. February - April 2023
“Buscando Refugio” (Seeking Refuge,) collage
The New Hampshire Art Association featured the work of artist Jesse Mireles in a show titled "¡Expresionismo!" at its Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH. The exhibit ran from February 22 through April 2, 2023.
Mireles, a resident of Salisbury, MA, moved from Ohio in mid-August 2022. He is a painter, printmaker, and award-winning graphic designer. He was born in Mexico but grew up in Toledo, Ohio, studying art and graphic design in high school and painting, graphics, and printmaking at the University of Toledo.
Mireles describes himself as an abstract expressionist. "I view my art as a mission to awaken repressed passions and emotions," he says. "My work is an ongoing experiment with paint to generate a visual euphoria with every new execution. In my life, I have found precious few abstract expressionist works by fellow Mexican-born artists," says Mireles. "I have worked to change that reality."
¡Expresionismo! had three modes of art: paintings, prints, and collages. The primary section featured paintings ranging from 5 1/2" × 5 1/2" to 4 ft x 8 ft, all in mixed media on paper, canvas, and panel. All the paintings in this section were non-figurative experiments with paint applied with brushes, scrapers, and other tools.
The second section included a series of framed giclée prints digitized from hand-drawn sketches, colorized on a computer, and printed with archival quality inks on fine paper. Finally, the third section included three collages on paper and canvas. The prints and the collages were representational but abstract.
Jesse Mireles was awarded a D. Pratt Framer Artist Opportunity Grant, which helps artists cover the costs of solo or artist-curated exhibitions. He sincerely thanked D. Pratt Framer for sponsoring this grant for the first time and helping to make artist opportunities more accessible.
The NHAA Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery is at 136 State Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801. It is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 am - 5 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11 am - 6 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm - 5 pm.
